Flood Management in Vietnam

Results:

LIDAR survey is an effective tool for collecting geospatial data for natural resource monitoring.

Geokosmos 3D Modeler is an in-house developed software tool, ideal for data processing, visualization and presentation of geospatial data. It allows to:

  • develop digital models of terrain
  • execute interactive modeling and texturing of objects
  • measure distances, areas, natural and manmade objects elevations
  • build up arbitrary section profiles of 3D models

Actual task:

Mekong Delta is one of the most important farming regions of Vietnam. As the result of unpredictable weather changes lately, the problem of Mekong delta flooding has become very important in recent years. The safety of human being and economic activity in the delta is one of the strategic factors for investment attractiveness of the region.

Applied use:

Digital terrain models based on laser reflection points together with the situational analysis and forecasting helps in mitigation of the effects of the flooding in the region. With average annual rainfall and digital terrain model of the region, it is easier to model the overflow dynamics and forecast the consequences of excessive precipitation.
